trial licence activated but FDTD-solutions says no license server found

#1

Hello,

My name is Jun, and I am new here. I have got an activation code (Trial license).

I followed the instructions on this page:
https://kb.lumerical.com/en/install_linux_instructions_fdtd.html

It succeeded in step 4.Activate Your License Activation Code, as shown in attached the screenshot file.
But in step 8.Launch FDTD Solutions software, it reports “can’t find license server”, as shown in the same screenshot file.

What should I do?

Thank you!

#2

Hi,
According to the error code -15, it indicates that the Lumerical product can not connect to the license server, It could occur because the license manager is not started yet.
Please follow the commands below to restart the License manager in Linux:

sudo /etc/init.d/lumlmadmin restart

Also, check the dashboard to confirm license manager is up and running by using http://localhost:8095/dashboard

#3

@zhao,

What distribution and version of Linux are you using?

#4

Dear pjain,
Thank you for your reply.

I tried “sudo /etc/init.d/lumlmadmin restart” and the web “http://localhost:8095/dashboard” reported an error as shown in the screenshot file.

I also checked the log file, it looks like this:

Has it been trying to connect something? Then I tried:

Does that mean that my internet connection is no good?

Dear lyap,

Thank you for your reply. Quote below shows my Linux distribution and version:

[root@centos6 ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release; uname -a
CentOS release 6.8 (Final)
Linux centos6 2.6.32-642.11.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Nov 18 19:25:05 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

HI Jun,

Can we please try below troubleshooting steps

  1. Restart the computer one time

  2. Send us a screenshot of Vendor daemon status as below by going the Dashboard > administration > default username and password is “admin” > Vendor daemon configuration

  3. Install the license manager again by using the standard installation process. Please find the link below for installation steps.
    https://kb.lumerical.com/en/index.html?installation_and_setup_install-license-manager.html

#7

Dear pjain,

Thank you for your reply.

I did all what you said. (reatart and re-install the license manager) Now the dashboard is different from last time:

And the “admin” > Vendor daemon configuration page is like this:

They look fine, right?
But when I try to run fdtd-solutions, it pops up a window like this:

The Yes button leads to a normal configuration GUI and what I can configure is to set the license server. The default option is “localhost”, and I tried its IP address, failed.

It looks like a problem of internet connection, right? I can ping kx.lumerical.com, but can’t ping www.lumerical.com.

By the way, my centos6 was copied from a virtual machine. (sudo dd if=virtualmachine.img of=/dev/sdc)
If it’s an IT problem, will re-installing my centos6 help?

HI Jun,
Thank you for providing screenshots. As per the error message in a screenshot, the computer is not connected to the internet and that is the reason behind it is failing to connection with the server

In order to access evaluation license model, an active internet connection is required at all time while you are running Lumerical product. The error should be resolved by connecting your computer with continuous internet connection.
