Nano-scale structures in the middle of a macroscopic device



Is there a good method for including nano-scale structures in the middle of a macroscopic device? Can the optimization be done across nano-macro span of scale?


Currently, this has to be done in 3 separate steps: Start with the simulation in OpticStudio, save the resulting beam into a ZBF file and load this into Lumerical as a source. After simulating the propagation of this beam through nano-scale structures, save the resulting field profile into a ZBF file again and load this back into OpticStudio to propagate through the remaining portion of the macroscopic device. Both OpticStudio and Lumerical have built-in optimization routines, but optimization across nano- and macro-scale systems will require additional scripting.
