How can I import 2D distribution of loss into a waveguide in MODE?

Hi,

I got the electric field 2D distribution of a waveguide, and calculated the loss due to the E field.

Now I would like to import the loss data into the waveguide in MODE to simulate its optical properties.

I was wondering how can I import the loss data? By creating new material?

Hi @rui.li5,

You could define a new material to include the loss feature. The measured data could be imported to “sampled data material”, and please refer to the KB page Creating sampled data materials for the implementation details. Please make sure you check for the material fit afterwards.

But I’m afraid you didn’t read my question carefully.

I mean importing the 2D distribution of loss in the waveguide, not the the loss changes of wavelength in the waveguide.

I checked the KB and didn’t find the methods.

Hi @rui.li5,

Sorry about that. In that case you may want to import the spacial (n, k) data. Please refer to the KB page Import object - Spatial (n,k) data. Please note that you have to add the perturbation to your original (n, k) data, and now this only works for single wavelength.
