3D Hexagonal Photonic Crystal Bandstructure and W1 waveguide

Hi all,

I’m pretty new to bandstructure and lumerical so I was hoping to get some help with simulation parameters.

  1. I’m trying to replicate the Planar 3D Hex example but scaled up to my parameters of interest (https://kb.lumerical.com/en/diffractive_optics_pc_bandstructure_3d_planar_hex.html)

I’m changing a = 0.752, r=0.188, d=0.5.

What I’m not sure about is how to change the dipole cloud parameters to match my simulation:

  1. I’m also a little unsure if I sure be simulating kx, ky, kz. Why was kx only simulated? What determines the value of kx?

  2. Then I would like to do the same but for a W1 waveguide (same PhC parameters). What would need to change in this case?

Can you please clarify a few things for me:

  1. What are the r=0.188 and d=0.5 in your simulation? I could not see these parameters defined in planar3D_hex.fsp file.

  2. I think I didn’t understand your question. We are sweeping over both kx and ky values to obtain band structure plots. Please see below:

  1. Can you please elaborate on what is a W1 waveguide? you mean a 1 dimensional waveguide?
